The Comrades Marathon
Durban and Pietermaritzburg host possibly the most gruelling ultramarathon in the world in June, and each year the event draws top international competitors going all out to win. The 90km race, run between Durban and Pietermarizburg, draws thousands of runners and the route is lined with spectators. The Comrades has a unique spirit and camaraderie epitomised by its name.
Shark attack
The Sharks have been a powerhouse of South African rugby for many years and have developed intense rivalries with top local and international teams. The home ground, the 52 000-seater Growthpoint Kings Park Stadium, is a fantastic venue which allows spectators to feel close to the action. The Sharks are known for playing high quality and bruising rugby, and have produced many Springbok rugby players. No matter the competition format, the Sharks’ games are always well supported, and the after- parties are legendary.
