Mahin sleeps until late with her eye mask on, she likes pretty dresses with sheer underskirts, and gets teary-eyed watching soap operas. She could be a twenty-something influencer on TikTok, but she is a seventy-year-old Iranian woman whose husband died decades ago. She is becoming invisible, to her children who live abroad and to the world around her, until she follows a single, elderly taxi driver to the taxi stand and a beautiful friendship is born. They spend a night chatting, dancing, and drinking homemade wine, reconnecting with their youth which was spent in a country vastly different from the repressive Iran of today.
On an empty road in the middle of the night, Shula stumbles across the body of her uncle. As funeral proceedings begin around them, she and her cousins bring to light the buried secrets of their middle-class Zambian family, in filmmaker Rungano Nyoni’s surreal and vibrant reckoning with the lies we tell ourselves.
Teresa and her husband travel to their family farm to seek refuge from urban violence. There they face a revolt by local workers, alarmed by the imminent loss of their homes. She locks herself in her armoured car but is unable to start it. Meanwhile, workers try to communicate with her and if necessary, take her out by force. The layer of armour that separates these two universes may not be enough to contain the fear and violence that grows with every passing minute.
A government scheme sees newly widowed Santosh inherit her husband’s job as a police constable in the rural badlands of Northern India. When a low-caste girl is murdered, Santosh is pulled into the investigation by charismatic feminist inspector Sharma.
