Men Carve endeavours to empower individuals to challenge harmful norms and foster a safer and more inclusive society.
One of the cornerstones of Men Carve’s efforts is its commitment to eliminating gender-based violence and sexual assault. Recognising the pervasive nature of these issues, Khuzwayo and his team have implemented targeted interventions aimed at raising awareness, providing support services, and advocating for policy changes. By engaging with students and faculty members alike, Men Carve seeks to create a supportive environment where survivors feel empowered to come forward and seek assistance.
In addition to its advocacy work, Men Carve also extends a helping hand to students in need through its food parcel distribution programme. Recognising the financial hardships faced by many students, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, Khuzwayo and his team have made it their mission to provide essential support in the form of food parcels to DUT students, Men Carve ensures that no student goes hungry while pursuing their academic aspirations.
Khuzwayo’s leadership and dedication to the Men Carve initiative have not gone unnoticed. His tireless efforts to promote healthy masculinity and combat gender-based violence have earned him
widespread recognition and admiration within the academic community. The Programme of the Year Award is a testament to the impact of Khuzwayo’s work and the transformative potential of initiatives like Men Carve.
Speaking on his hopes for the future and the project, “We want to see the project in all South African universities and provinces, reaching more people and reshaping manhood.” Ultimately, they would like the initiative to be an international project. We hope to have branches even in other countries that want to be promoters of healthy, respectful manhood,” he said.
Looking ahead, Khuzwayo remains steadfast in his commitment to driving positive change through Men Carve. Armed with a vision of a society free from violence and discrimination, he continues to inspire others to join the movement and make a difference. As Khuzwayo and his team continue to carve out a path towards a brighter future, their story serves as a reminder of the power of collective action and the enduring impact of grassroots initiatives. Khuzwayo’s leadership and advocacy through Men Carve exemplify the transformative potential of student-led initiatives.
