Driven by a passion for art, design, photography and visual storytelling,Karishma pursued a B-Tech degree in Graphic Design at DUT. A defining experience for her was a photography course that completely captivated her.“I uncovered the enchantment of capturing moments and the profound influence that images can wield in people’s lives,” related Karishma. Karishma’s journey included a role as a tutor in the design faculty, selected on merit, where she honed her skills in design, mentoring, teaching, and leadership. Her dedication culminated in an Honours Degree (CUM LAUDE) in Photography and Design.
One cherished memory from her time at DUT involved participating in a national design competition for a special needs school. Competing against senior design students and securing first place left a lasting impact. Karishma vividly recalled the profound experience of interacting with the remarkable children at the school.“Their resilience and refusal to let their disabilities hinder their aspirations inspired me deeply. On that day, I internalised a powerful lesson: belief in oneself transcends circumstances,” said Karishma. Her winning design was prominently featured in a campus-wide art exhibition, earning praise and encouragement from peers and professors alike. This pivotal moment solidified her decision to pursue a career in photography and design.
As the Creative Director and Founder of Bright Spark Studios, Karishma’s typical day involves planning and coordinating media projects, conducting photo shoots, liaising with clients, and managing various business aspects, including client relations, marketing, and strategic planning.

Her advice to aspiring photographers is to build strong connections with clients. It is essential to understand clients’ needs, communicate effectively, and deliver work that exceeds their expectations. “Establishing trust and rapport with clients not only leads to successful projects but also fosters long-term relationships that can enhance your career,” recommended Karishma.
Karishma emphasises the role of professional connections in her own career. “One significant opportunity arose when a professional connection led to a collaboration with an international publication, with one of the world’s most renowned photographers, which significantly boosted my profile and expanded my reach globally. Such connections have been pivotal in opening doors and creating new possibilities.” Karishma balances her personal life with her roles as a photographer and entrepreneur. Married to her best friend, and with two children who share a passion for photography, her family serves as a pillar of strength and inspiration. “Balancing family life with my dedication to building and expanding Bright Spark Studios is of utmost importance to me. Achieving work- life balance is paramount, and I remain ambitious in pursuing both personal happiness and professional success,” said Karishma.
