Founder and Director of Fashion on Point who is a self-taught fashion designer, Mahlori Mabasa shines against all odds. Her love and passion for fashion has helped her explore her creative side and express her feelings. Fashion on Point is a manufacturing company that specializes with custom-made clothes and cushions.
Mahlori Mabasa offers a range of products and services that cater to individuals seeking stylish, sustainable fashion options. She offers apparel collection that includes a variety of clothes for women, men and children. She also does custom- made cushions. Her designs are inspired by a blend of modern trends and timeless elegance, offering versatility and style for various occasions.
After joining the DUT-Centre for Social Entrepreneurship Mahlori has managed to apply the knowledge to her business which contributed a lot to the growth of her business.
“The DUT Centre for social entrepreneurship shaped my journey as an entrepreneur, providing me with tools, knowledge and confidence needed to build and grow my fashion business. Here are some of the services received from the incubation: Trainings, networking and market access, Facility services, access to funding, brand building, personal growth and development, mentoring and coaching” She said.
Her business has experienced significant growth in sales since its inception. She has achieved a turnover of about R325 441
over the year. She now has 2 full time employees and 1 part time employee.
From January-May 2024, sales Turnover was R195 541, and growth rate is 100% and one of her key milestones was expanded product range, increased online presence, and collaborated with influencers which boosted traffic and sales.
She shared her pieces of advice to aspiring entrepreneur to guide them on their journey:
“Embrace Continuous Learning, the entrepreneurial landscape is ever evolving. Stay curious and commit to lifelong learning. Take advantage of courses, workshops, and industry literature to keep your skills and knowledge current.”
“Seek Mentorship and Build a Network, surround yourself with experienced mentors who can provide guidance and support. Stay Passionate and purpose-driven, ensure your entrepreneurial journey is fuelled by passion and a clear sense of purpose. This will keep you motivated and focused, especially during tough times.” She added.
