 Sanitation Services
Regarding sanitation services, Participant 2 elaborated that waste management is also provided at no charge, especially in rural areas closer to central business districts (CBDs).While these services have been extended to more accessible rural areas, they remain free, further emphasizing the municipalities’ role in supporting rural communities. Participant 3 highlighted ongoing efforts to improve sanitation through projects like those in the Alfred Ndzo district, where toilets have been installed in villages across all wards. Such projects are key to addressing basic sanitation needs in rural areas.
 Participant 2
They also render services such as waste management. Then, even in waste, waste management, you we
only charge, in in the CBD. There have been extended that services, of course, to other rural spaces that are closer to the CBD that are accessible as well where our municipalities are doing waste collection there. But they are not charging and offer that service for free.
Most of the people that get water, that get, access to sanitation services, that use the disaster management, unit in terms of whatever problems that they have
to attend to, that pertains to people. Yeah. All of
that service offered for free.
Disaster management services
Participant 3
“There are some services such as District of Alfred Ndzo where there is a project to provide toilets in villages. All villages have had toilets installed in all the wards. If there is a village lacking, maybe it would only be that one.”
Participant 7
“Yeah. I’ll just, cover because some of these are covered
by category, a, by all the municipalities. In mostly sewer and refuse, water, roads, public libraries, municipal health, fire services, disaster management, traffic service, traffic services, electricity, cemeteries. Yes. And others.”
Disaster management and fire and rescue services were also discussed, with Participant 4 noting that these services are provided free of charge in rural districts, a sharp contrast to cities where similar services often contribute to municipal revenue. The provision of these essential services without charge reflects the socio-economic realities of rural areas, where many residents cannot afford to pay for such services.
Participant 4
“It’s disaster management services, You don’t pay for services like this, which in cities, these are the services that you generate income on.”
