4.6.5. Community Reforestation Project (CRP)
The Community Reforestation Programme responds to the strategic goals of eThekwini Municipality’s Integrated Development Plan. Its aims include preserving and restoring forest biodiversity, enhancing ecosystem services, and offsetting carbon emissions. Utilizing a Community Ecosystem-Based Adaptation (CEBA) approach, the programme engages local communities to tackle forest degradation and unemployment. It focuses on managing or fully restoring natural ecosystem fragments while creating jobs for locals to maintain these forests. Additionally, the programme serves as a model for climate change adaptation. The tables below summarize achievements in the 2023/24 financial year.
