5. Conclusion
This is eThekwini Municipality’s 16th State of Biodiversity Report. The report has highlighted the state of biodiversity in the Municipality for the 2023/24 financial year. Most importantly the report highlights the need for more action to accelerate the protection and management of biodiversity, and for raising awareness on biodiversity challenges. Such action needs to consider ways for effectively raising awareness on biodiversity such that people and nature can reconnect, strengthening of partnerships internally and externally and the continuation of participating in the work of various biodiversity networks, addressing the management challenges at Chameleon Park and other sites that are important for the Dwarf Chameleon, unlocking support for biodiversity stewardship, and the mobilisation of resources, both human and financial, when operating within a resources constraint context and are under austerity measures. The next report will be for the 2024/2025 municipal financial year and will be produced in December 2025.
