For this Enso term my project is to create a series of Firehouse Kimono Spirit Dolls. The

story behind them has held my attention for a long time.

Japanese firefighters during the Edo period (1603-1868) were revered for their strength
and bravery tasked with putting out fires that would otherwise destroy their cities. These

fireman’s kimonos were constructed of multi-layers of fabric sashiko stitched and then
drenched in water. The outsides were plain and displayed their names…while the inside dis-

played intricate scenes from their Japanese legends of strength and heroism Once the fires
were put out they would reverse the kimono showing the intricate legend that had protected

them.
I want to create spirit dolls that honor the modern firefighter in each of our lives that often

requires daily strength and bravery within each of us.
My second goal is to learn how to set up an Etsy shop that looks professional. Best tips, pros

and challenges.
My third goal is to explore creating a website. This one is rather intimidating for me.
