About PAMELA STRATTON

          the

          Artist &

          the

Work I am a contemporary mixed media mosaic artist. I came to art without

formal training in my late forties, working in the health field in which I was

constantly exposed to the ephemeral nature of life. This triggered the
desire to create a body of work rooted in solid materials with history and
weight that engendered a sense of permanence.

My aim is to capture the essence of life’s beauty and celebrate its
diversity. Creating a mosaic is a deeply focusing meditative activity. I am
most comfortable in the natural world and enjoy hiking, bird watching, and
the deep silence of the winter woods.

I select themes from the simple surprises in nature’s beauty. The way
sunlight spotlights a shape on the forest floor, the ripple of water in a pond,
or the amazing patterns left in the sand from the outgoing tide. I never tire

of experimenting with new techniques and mediums.

My work ranges from large architectural mosaics in trees to mosaic jewelry
made from hand pulled glass threads. My mosaic work has been exhibited

in international shows and has received artistic distinction awards for
experimentation from the New England Mosaic Society. I teach mosaic
classes in my Rockport, Massachusetts studio.
