In 1996, I had the opportunity to work and live in Paris for six
months. Email was a fairly new means for communicating, and I
used it to send a series of newsletters I entitled Emails From Paris. I
saved all of my email correspondences and my journal entries.
Twenty-two years later I published Emails From Paris, a digital
memoir/art book available on Apple Books.
In 2019, I had a solo exhibition at the San Luis Obispo Museum of
Art that featured the twenty-nine encaustic paintings I included in
Emails From Paris. When the curator came for my first studio visit,
she became excited about some sets I’d built for a digital project
and encouraged me to consider including a few sculptures in my
exhibition. I had a couple of gargoyle paintings in the show and
decided to do some gargoyle sculptures.
