Colossians 3:15-17 “And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were
called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and
admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with
thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the
name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”
The story is told of a man who found a barn where Satan kept his seeds ready to be sown in
the human heart. He found that the seeds of discouragement were more numerous than the
others, and he learned those seeds could be made to grow almost anywhere. But when Satan
was questioned, he reluctantly admitted that there was one place in which he could never get
them to thrive. “And where is that?” asked the man. Satan replied, “In the heart of a thankful
person.”
The deeper meaning of Thanksgiving is not so much thanking God for the bounty of our lives.
Rather it is learning to live our lives with grateful hearts no matter what our circumstances. And
let’s face it, 2020 has been a difficult year.
Our prayer is that you and your family have a most blessed Thanksgiving weekend, and may
4 the hearts of America embrace the spirit of true thanksgiving for all He has done.
