WELLNESS MINISTRY MINUTE:
February is Heart Health
Month…Let's Go Red!
In recognition of Heart Health month, please join us on GO RED Sunday, February 27 and wear red
th,
to church. Even though most heart disease is preventable, every year, 600,000 people die from heart
disease. Share with others why you are wearing red on February 27 and help continue to bring
th
awareness to these deadly illnesses.
Know Your Risks:
Even though heart disease is a leading cause of death in the United States for both men and women,
you can do a lot to protect your heart and stay healthy.
Heart-healthy living involves understanding your risk, making choices, and taking steps to reduce your
chances of getting heart disease including coronary heart disease, the most common type. Coronary
and other types of heart disease cause heart attacks, but by taking preventive measures, you can lower
your risk of developing heart disease and also improve your overall health and well-being. Your risk of
heart disease is higher if you:
Have high blood pressure
Have high blood cholesterol
Are overweight or obese
Have prediabetes or diabetes
Smoke
Do not get regular physical activity
Each risk factor increases a person’s chance of developing heart disease. The more risk factors you
have, the higher your overall risk. You can make the changes gradually, one at a time. It is a matter of
life and death. Make a change today!
