Wellness Ministry Minute
April is Minority Health, Stress Awareness, and Child Abuse Awareness Month!
MINORITY HEALTH RISKS & PREVENTION
Taking care of yourself needs to be a priority because you cannot pour from an empty cup.
Minorities lead in the prevalence of many life-threatening illnesses. Most of the major health
risks factors for minority adults can be found and/or treated if caught earlier through preventive care
visits with your doctor. Some of the prominent health issues include but are not limited to the following:
Heart Disease, hypertension, and stroke
Diabetes
Cancer
Mental Health
Preventive Care:
The easiest way to treat a disease is stop it before it starts. Preventive care consists of measures
taken to prevent disease. Understanding how to avoid a possible chronic condition is essential.
Preventive services are often covered at 100% through medical insurance and some employers will
even pay employees for staying up to date with preventive care. Check with your insurance carrier for
specific details. Prevention is an effective path to improving lives.
1 Corinthians 6 19-20:
Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from
God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore, glorify God in your body
and in your spirit, are God’s, which are God’s.
