 Runners Rebuild Tradition at CBA
On a stormy day before the beginning of the cross country team met and set the goals they were going to attain with the help of their new coach Mike Mur phy. The goals were; a winning season, defeat the strong Nottingham team and finish in the top seven in the section. The laborious training began.
The Brothers accomplished their first goal by attaining a 4-3 record in the tough OSHL Metro Division. Although they lost to Nottingham, by a mere five points in a dual meet, the team rose to the task and defeated the Bulldogs in the
OSHL and sectional meets on consecu tive weekends. Thereby accomplishing their second goal. In the same Sectional III meet, the Brothers finished third in Class B, beaten only by Cortland and the top-ranked Corcoran Cougars. This
showing secured their third and final goal, a top seven finish in the sectionals.
This year’s indoor track team, though small, proved once again that hard work doespayoff Thesmallquantityofmem bers on the team, however, made it im possible for the Brothers to send com petitors on to the track and field for a good number of events. The team did show however that they were very com petitive in the events that they did com pete, especially the distance medley re lay and 200-meter relay races.
Through the winterseason coach Mur phy and Spirit Coach Grants continued to build a solid foundation for the out
door track season in the coming spring. Last years Outdoor Track Team un
der the guidance o f Coach Tim Kissane slowly rebuilt a program that had lost a great number of members to graduation
the year before. The numbers were low, but the spirit was high and the team worked to show that they were top qual ity competitors.
The team did not let the loss of seniors and low tryouts deter them from their appointed tasks. The statistics show a 3- 5 in dual meet competition. The three
wins were over formidable foes — Jamesville-Dewitt, Bishop Ludden and Fowler. The high point of the Brothers season was the comeback victory over J-D. The Brothers swept the last three events to claim victory from what ap peared to be an almost certain defeat.
The Brothers Track programs seem to have found strong leadership in the coaching staff and are on the road to becoming a dominant force in Central New York Track . . . The Brothers are on the RUN.
