Competition Keeps Brothers on the Run
Challenging has to be the most appropriate description for the fall Brothers runners. Led by Veteran CoachJer ome Riordan, the juiced up joggers turned in several fine feats of physical fitness. A disappointing seventh place finish at Chenango Valley and McQuaid was no indication of the capability of the Varsity Squad. Close Third place finishes at FM. Christian Brothers Invitational and the prestigious Manhattan College Meet suggested a more accurate picture of the dynamic group.
Cities and Sectional Competition resulted in second place finishes. In addition, Junior JeffJurick qualified for the State Run in Malone. While strong rival Corcoran gave the Brothers tough races, the large number ofJuniors includ ing Paul Kelly, Steve Brill, Steve Hays and the McMa hon cousins create the conditions for high expectations next fall. Indications that this will come true are found in the fact that this year's squad was able to raise their state rankings from twenty-fourth to nineteenth.
