I Batmen destroy foes as
Powerful Varsity Pitching Plagues Opponents
Solid pitching typified the entire sea son for the Varsity Brothers Baseball team and it was that main ingredient that enabled them to win the final Cen tral New York Cities League Cham pionship. One run was all that was needed for ace hurler Pat Conole as the Brothers downed Corcoran 1-0.
Coach Tom Dotterer commented on Conole, who won a league-high six games, in the Post-Standard after the win: “ He’s the heart and soul of this
team. He doesn’t blow people out of there, but he mixes pitches well and typifies True Grit from the John Wayne movie.’’ Versatile David Krause proved to be a double threat for opposing teams. Krause pitched a one-hit, 12-inning marathon against Corcoran in a regular season game, and then drove in the winning run in the championship game. The power ful hitting of Kevin Burdick and Bob Waish and the all-around playing of
Matt Giblin all contributed to the suc cess of the team. Coach Dotterer’s squad went on to win their first sec tional game, but then lost in the last inning in a heartbreaker to Water- town. With the return of most of its veteran players and a wealth of talent coming up from the J.V. squad, the Brothers should fare well in the Onon daga High School League.
