Varsity lax swings to victory:

It was hailed as “ the game they weren’t supposed to win,” but the Varsity La crosse Team ended years of defeat by Bishop Ludden. A goal by Doug Peltier with one second to go widened the close score to 11-9 and enabled CBA Varsity Lacrosse to start a winning season. Greg Unger scored the goal to go ahead in the last quarter after an early give-and-take match. Mike Adornato, the goalie, was a major cause of the victory, denying Ludden any of the goals that it needed so badly to win. Mike Herring, the leading scorer, headed the team, which also included Doug Pet tier, Dave Lasure, Bob Smyth, Chris
Fietcher, Jack Mungovan, and goalie Mike Adornato. Art Lux, SU All-Ameri can, in his first year as coach, turned the program around from what had been mediocre performances into the perfor mance of years, finishing with a 13-5 overall record that saw many close losses, including a close Sectional game.
Defeated 8 to 7 in a double overtime, the Varsity Team was handed a heavy up set by Homer and lost any chance of Sectional Championship. Face-off man Bob Smyth led the attack against a team that was just a little more deter mined. Mike Herring was the scoring nemesis of Homer, but in the end, after two extra periods, Homer scored one more goal and defeated CBA’s promis ing team.
Mike Herring amazes his foes.
