HAWAIIAN PIZZA SLAB PIE



                                  WITH AN ALL-BUTTER CRUST


                                                    Serves 8 to 12




                Why ask why? I love a good ham and pineapple pizza pie without
                reservation and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. It’s salty, it’s sweet, it’s
                textural,  and…  okay,  it’s  too  weird  for  many  people.  If  you’re  on
                Team Hawaiian, jump into a lip-smacking pie with a buttery crust and

                plenty of cheese. Do I dare call it deep-dish slab pie?


                Make Ahead: Make the sauce up to 3 days ahead. Bake the pie right
                before serving.



                ALL-BUTTER CRUST
                1⅓ cups (160 g) all-purpose flour

                8 tablespoons (113 g) unsalted butter, cubed and frozen for 20 minutes

                ⅛ teaspoon kosher salt

                ¼ cup (60 ml) ice water


                FILLING

                ¼ cup (60 ml) olive oil

                2 garlic cloves, slivered

                1 (25-ounce) can (709 g) crushed tomatoes

                1 teaspoon dried oregano

                1 teaspoon salt
                ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper

                2 cups (225 g) diced smoked ham
