Narrowing a career ’s worth of cookie recipes dow n to +/- one
hundred, tweaking them, testing them, t asting them, and
turning them into this adorable little cookie bible wouldn’t have
happened without a team of supportive colleag ues, family, and
friends.
Special thanks to Kim Boyce, L aura Ohm, Mar y Oreskovich,
and Julie Richardson, rst-rate professional bakers and friends
all, for their original contributions to this book. Linda Colwell
and Anthony and Carol Bout ard also shared favorite recipes that
should not be missed: Squ ashed Fly Cookies and Ayers Creek
Lime Cornmeal Cookies. Merci beaucou p!
Much appreciation also goes to my crew of intrepid testers:
Marianne Frisch, Nanc y Coonley, Ellie Shafer, L ee McDavid, and
Cara Pestorius. And to Tom McFarland, baker extraordinaire
and my father, who took a few recipes into his kitchen for testing
and shared several more.
Thanks to Brendan Mangan for suggesting the idea to my
editor, Susan Roxborough, and to her for bringing this (perfect)
project to me. Ex tra loud applause for Em Gale, my patient
production editor, and her extra efforts on behalf of me and this
book. Thank you to Seattle photographer Charity Burggraaf,
food stylist Julie Hopper, and designer Joyce Hwang, for
bringing my recipes to life with lovely photos, design, and
illustrations.
Finally, on the home front, I’m grateful for enthusiastic
neighbors, who accepted each new plate of cookies like it was the
rst, my always-supportive husband, Steven, and Hershey’s
sweet kisses.
