from Little Women, by Louisa May Alcott

Makes 4¾ cups powder (19 cups prepared cocoa)

“‘Thou shouldst save some for the little friend: sweets to the sweet, mannling;’ and Mr.
Bhaer offered Jo some, with a look that made her wonder if chocolate was not the nectar
                                                     drunk by the gods.”

Prepare this to serve at a festive gathering or scoop the powder mix into mason jars to give
as gifts! This hot cocoa pairs beautifully with the homemade marshmallows in this book,
especially the gingerbread version, on page 239.

                INGREDIENTS
                 2 cups powdered milk

                 1¾ cups powdered sugar

                 1 cup cocoa powder
                 Gingerbread marshmallows (see page 239)

                INSTRUCTIONS

1 Thoroughly whisk all ingredients in a medium bowl and transfer to

                an airtight container.

2 To prepare, transfer ¼ cup cocoa mix to a mug and heat 1 cup milk

                                           *
in a small saucepan on medium-low heat just until steaming,
swirling the pan regularly. Pour hot milk into mug and stir thoroughly.

                Serve to the March sisters!

                   * If you would rather avoid having a pot to wash, you can heat

the milk in a mug for 1 to 2 minutes on high in a microwave,

stirring the milk halfway through to prevent a skin from forming
(be sure to use a microwave-safe mug). When the milk is

steaming, stir in your cocoa mix.
