oil on canvas
29.21 x 49.53 cm
Denver Art Museum, Colorado
KEY TOPICS:
• In this piece we see the view of a pier and the ocean looking out from a beach. In the left foreground, there is an
empty boat and a man walking beside a horse pulling a boat cart behind it. A little further down the shore are
two people standing at the edge of the waves. In the left distance, we can see a pier with buildings to the far left
and in the background are the sails of distant boats. A tumultuous sky fills the upper two thirds of the piece with
large clouds and a faintly blue atmosphere.
• Yarmouth is located on the western side of the Isle of Wight which is southwest of London. The pier in this
painting is no longer standing.
