        3.    The postman delivers 5 letters in 6 minutes. How many

               letters can he deliver in 30 minutes?                                    5 x 5 = 25

        4.     Each carriage on Stephenson’s ‘Rocket’ holds 8 people.

                How many people can be carried in 8 carriages?                          8 x 8 = 64

         5.  If the engine burned 250 pieces of coal every 45 minutes,
              how much would be burned in a 3-hour journey?                           4 x 250 = 1000


         6.  If 3 servants cleaned 6 rooms in a Victorian mansion
              in 30 minutes, how long would it take 6 servants to clean                 2 x 30 = 60
                24 rooms?


        7.    The London to Oxford Stage Coach travels at 12 miles                      72 / 12 = 6
               per hour. How long will it take to complete a journey of
               72 miles?

        8.    An electric tram holds 20 people on the top deck and                     20 + 18 = 38

              18 people on the lower deck. How many people could travel                  x7 = 266
               on 7 trams?


        9.    The front wheel of a Penny-farthing bicycle turns 20
              times a minute. If the smaller back wheel is ¼ its size, how             20 x 4 = 80
              many times will it turn?
