• The scene comprises two young men swimming in ocean waters, one holding up a sea turtle
by its front fins to hand it over to the other man who is standing behind a wooden structure
which is part of a “pound” where the turtle will be kept. A sailboat can be seen in the far

distance and the sky is filled with cumulus clouds.
• This was most likely painted in the Bahamas or Bermuda where Homer spent some time
during the last years of the 19 century and early 20 century.

• Homer’s signature can be seen on the right side of the picture plane on the wooden
structure, partially obscured by water.
