        Try this experiment to learn more about lightning.


          Aim:          To make your own static electricity as we see in lightning.
          Apparatus:   Balloon, woollen material. Comb, pieces of tissue paper or polystyrene.
          Method:       Rub the blown up balloon on the woollen material or jumper for a while then
                        put it near your ear.  Can you hear it crackling? _________


                        Rub the comb on the woollen material for a while then try to pick up the
                        tissue paper with it.  Did it pick up the paper? _________

          You have made static electricity by rubbing things together.  It was first discovered by

          the Greeks in 600BC.
