Try these experiments to learn more about surface tension.
To see how surface tension pulls on the surface of the water.
Look at the surface of the water when you fill a glass right up to the brim.
What do you notice?

To see if surface tension can be broken and then re-form.
Lay a needle or pin on a fork and lay it on the surface of a bowl of
water. Try to make the pin float by lowering the fork and leaving the
pin on the surface. The fork breaks the surface tension but if you can
make the pin float it shows that the surface tension can reform.
Did you succeed? __________ Did anyone succeed? __________
To show how surface tension can be useful in keeping water out.
Fill a jar with water and soak a piece of thin cloth to stretch over the
top of the jar. Fix it on with an elastic band. Turn the jar upside down
carefully.
What happens and why?
