Weather – week 1
Air is all around us. The earth is covered with air which
we call the atmosphere. It is made up of colourless
gases which God created. Weather is the condition of
the air at a certain time.
Write words which can describe our weather, e.g., windy, stormy

Try these experiments to find out more about air.
Experiment 1
Aim: To show that air has weight and presses in all directions.
Apparatus: Newspaper, ruler.
Method: Lay a sheet of newspaper near the edge of a table with a ruler underneath.
Allow half of the ruler to extend beyond the edge of the table. Press on the ruler.
Is it as easy as you think to lift the newspaper?

Experiment 2
Aim: To show that air has weight and presses in all directions.
Apparatus:
Glass, piece of card, water.
Method: Fill the glass with water up to the brim. Slide the card over the top. Carefully
tip it upside down.
