A devoted mother and a friend—you were a pillar of strength
and compassion, always ready with a listening ear and
heartfelt advice.
As we remember you today, we celebrate the legacy of love
and kindness. Though you are no longer with us in body, your
spirit will forever live on in our hearts.
Thank you, Momma, for being a shining beacon to the family.
You will be missed dearly but never forgotten. Until we meet
again.
With Love,
Bernita
Dear Grandma Mart, there have been so many memories
playing in my head since the day I heard of your passing.
Memories that make me smile, laugh, and even cry—but
each one holds a special place in my heart and soul.
As I reflect on your life, I see many traits we both share—
from our studious minds to our sassy humor. I’m proud to
say that the quirks that shaped you into the woman you
were, now reside in the woman I am.
I don’t look at this as a goodbye, because I know you’ll
always be watching over me. So, with that being said,
thank you in advance for becoming my number one
cheerleader in angel form.
With Love,
Goldilocks
You were the big sister I never
had. Your faith, strength, and
determination encouraged me
to press on through life’s
challenges.
Though we didn’t see each other
often, we talked at least once a
month—long conversations full
of laughter, encouragement,
and truth.
I will miss those talks, your
honesty, and our connection.
Martha, I know you are in a
better place, happy and at
peace with the Lord.
Until we meet again,
Vicki (Hall) Turner
I was privileged to have known Martha as a friend for over 48
years. I first met her around 1977 or 1978 while working at
Ramsey County OIC. Martha was a high school student and
came to OIC as a clerical work-study student after moving
from Mississippi with her family.
We traveled to a national OIC convocation in Boston and then
to NYC, where we stayed with Sharita Hunt. We saw her
Broadway show and visited another actress’s apartment with
a spectacular view of the Twin Towers.
Martha was a hard worker, always educating herself to
improve her career. She even moved East to attend law
school for a while.
She was an excellent seamstress—her dashikis were beautiful
and now heirlooms. Martha loved her family deeply,
especially her boys, Steven and Melvin.
Though I was glad when she returned to Minnesota, I know
she’s now at her eternal home. I will miss our candid
conversations. My Lil Sis, I love you and you are forever in my
heart.
God Bless,
Cindy Nelson-Fischer
Big Sis
Sis, you will be deeply missed. I
appreciate all the life lessons
you taught me and the long
talks we had.
I knew how tired you were, and
God knew it too. You are now
with Momma and the rest of our
siblings. Give Momma a hug
and kiss for me.
Love,
Baby Sis
I’m going to miss you, Sis!
Love,
Pookie
I’m going to miss you, Auntie
Mart! Thank you for loving me!
Kailon
Autie Mart, I love and miss you!
