Ripples Gala
Event Chair
I am honored to serve as the Chair of this year’s
Ripples gala. As a teenager who fled the
Bosnian war, I received resettlement services
from Samaritas. At that time, I never imagined I
would be writing this letter, reflecting on my
journey and the incredible impact of Samaritas
on my life and the lives of many others.
When my family and I arrived in the United States, Samaritas was there to help us navigate the challenges of
starting anew. Their support was a lifeline, and I am deeply grateful to be part of an organization that has positively
influenced so many families, including those in the Bosnian community.
As we gather this evening, I am reminded of the significance of this celebration. Samaritas is marking 90 years of
service, while the Bosnian American community proudly celebrates 25 years in America. These milestones reflect
the enduring impact of organizations like Samaritas in supporting immigrants and refugees, helping them build new
lives and thrive in their new communities.
I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to Samaritas for their unwavering dedication to families like mine. A special
thank you goes to all our donors, particularly Comerica Bank, whose generosity has uplifted me and made a
significant difference in the lives of countless individuals and families.
Thank you for being here tonight and for your contributions. Together, we can uplift those in need and continue to
make a meaningful impact in our communities.
Warm regards,
Anida Sabanovic
