Sports Day 2019
th
On 12 July 2019, SKIS held its bi-annual Sports Day in the sports hall at the Swiss Club. As usual, each grade was divided into
two teams, the blues and the whites. Mr. Kang delivered the opening speech outlining some of the rules for the day and
Mr. Choi went through the stretching routine. Students then gathered at their prearranged stations around the hall.
The first activity was pair running for Grade 1 and Grade 2. Despite the best efforts of the blue team, the white team won
both races and stormed into a 2-0 lead! However, for the Grade 3 and Grade 4 running and high knees game, the blues came
storming back to level the scores! For the first time, a plank activity was introduced to the Sports Day for G5 and G6. Again, each
grade put in an incredible effort and this was reflected in the scores remaining level! Students were then given a well-deserved
break after the morning activities.
After the break, students were given a chance to showcase their frisby- throwing abilities. The white team excelled at this and
built up a strong lead overall. The ever popular tug of war game was next on the agenda and both teams put in a fierce effort.
However, the scores remained level in this event but the white team still held a strong lead overall.
Next it was the turn of the teachers to display their power in the tug of war game. After an epic contest, the blue team managed
to drag the white team to their knees and take the points in style. This point was vital for the blue team as it enabled them to
stay in contention for overall victory if they were to win the final event, the relay.
And what a final event it was! The blue team took an early lead and it looked like they were going to coast home until a dramatic
fall mid-way through the relay. This resulted in a re-start at the Grade 4 stage. The white team regained their lead thereafter and
never relinquished it, thus winning the relay and securing a convincing overall victory! Will the blue team get their revenge in the
December Sports Day event? Only time will tell!
