Sixteen teams from Essex & Kent
entered this year’s Jenny Orpin Me-
morial Fours to remember a loyal ser-
vant of East Hanningfield SMBC.
The format for the sixteen teams
was that each team played six games
of seven ends over the day with the
team with the most points winning the
trophy.
After the first two rounds there
were five teams EH Horseshoes,
Stonyhills, Woodlands, Hollingbourne
& Sanguine who were on maximum
Winners Pauline Pammant, Brenda Neil, points. After the third round of
Theresa Kidd & Joan Southern matches there were only two teams
on maximum points, EH Horseshoes skipped by Paul Bax & Woodlands skipped by Nigel
Reed. These two teams were being chased by Hollingbourne who drew their third round
game as did Sanguine with a 3-3 scoreline against East Tilbury.
EH Horseshoes & Woodlands both lost their next games by 6-7 & 4-5 respectively &
Hollingbourne beat Essex under 18s 9-1
to put them on 7 points with five teams
chasing them on 6 points, to leave a
tense last two rounds.
After the fifth round of matches we
went into the last round of matches with
Hollingbourne still in front on 9 points
closely followed by GPCA & EH Horse-
shoes on 8 points with Island & Sanguine
both on 7 points, the upshot was that all
five teams were in with an excellent
chance to win the competition.
The outcome was E.H Horseshoes
lost to Woodlands 3-12 which gave them
a total of 8 points each, Island beat East Runners-up Tony Drew, Roy Toms,
Shiela Wicks & Tony Channer.
Tilbury 9-6 to put Island on 9 points,
GPCA drew 5-5 with Hadleigh Woods which put GPCA on 9 points and Sanguine beat Holling-
bourne by 8 shots to 7 which also placed both these teams on 9 points.
The table position ended up with four teams each on 9 points and therefore came down
to shot difference to decide the overall competition winner. Sanguine & Hollingbourne both
had exactly plus 18 shots each, which on count back on shots scored, San-
guine (Pauline Pammant, Theresa Kidd, Joan Southern & Brenda Neil)
came out the overall winners by having scored 45 shots to Hollingbournes’
39.
Hollingbourne (Tony Channer, Sheila Wicks, Roy Toms & Tony Drew)
had put up a brave fight and lost out marginally to fine Sanguine team. Well
done Sanguine, a well deserved win. Third were GPCA with a plus 10
shots and Fourth were Island with a plus 3 shots.
