SPRING TOURNAMENT
SPRING TOURNAMENT
Now in its 20th year of hosting Short Mat Bowls Tourna-
ments, this very popular hotel was once again the venue
for another outstanding event. As ever the first evening
started with a “get to know you” bowls drive, with all the
players mixed up in this fun event. In the end Betty Whit-
tock, Dianne Butterfield, John Lawes & Rene Morgan
won with a large plus of 20 shots.
The second event to be completed was the
evening 2 bowl singles. At the quarter final stage Mau-

round 6 - 5. Previous winner Michael Bell had an easier
task against John Redstone with a 9 - 4 victory. With a
similar margin David Buck beat Sandra Odams 11 - 5.
The semi-final between Tony Gepp and Michael
Bell was a Titanic struggle but once again with a last end
single Tony won 9 - 8. In the other semi-final, Maurice
Kibby fought hard against David Buck but couldn’t pre-
vent David winning 7 - 4 with two ends still to go. In the
final Tony Gepp kept up his good form and eventually
beat David Buck 9 - 3 with the last end unplayed.
In the Pairs quarters Tony was still in great form and
with Sheila King beat Val Lucas & Phil Toogood 11 - 5. A
last end three Gave Val & Graham Cannock a 10 - 5 vic-
tory over Kath Francombe & Maureen Stutsbury-Palmer.
Mike Davis & Cynthia Riley also had a comfortable 12 - Seated Pairs winners
