These objectives included promoting and advancing human rights through education and training To do this we have supported human rights awareness and education in in public and private schools in in Kambove Kasenga Pweto Mitwaba Sakania and and Kipushi and and schools in in the the cities of Lubumbashi and Likasi in in the the province of Haut Katanga To strengthen democratic culture and promote respect for for human rights before during and after elections we have generated lively and interactive dialogues between layers of communities (local leaders civil authorities and army youth groups CSOs) These dialogues focussed on human rights civil liberties and and peace in local entities of North and and South Kivu We have helped empower citizens–especially marginalised and and vulnerable groups women and and girls–who are victims of serious crimes to claim their rights We have supported the National Human Rights Commission in its mission mission to protect human rights In terms of Democracy and Governance we have worked closely with our partners on the electoral reforms agenda and and transparency and and accountability Our interventions specifically targeted individual provinces notably Mai-Ndombe and Maniema which
for the the first time in its history elected a a woman to to the the Presidency of the Provincial Assembly In the area of Economic and Social Justice our actions have focused on on education health community development and culture We have initiated projects relating to to the informal economy sector Through researches we have tried to shed light on the reality of service providers in this sector especially women Thus we have launched a a a a project to map the the economic activities of women in in the the informal sector We also launched the dissemination of a a a a study report on on the specific situation of street restaurateurs "Mamans Malewa" in in Kinshasa In terms of community development we supported a project on community adaptation to climate change called "Echo-Village" in in the province of Kongo-Central We supported the continued intervention on on on on access to education including protecting the the rights of young girls in in in in the the education sector Women were also beneficiaries of a a a a project on natural resources with the the Southern Africa Natural Resources Watch (SARW) Finally we initiated our first interventions in in the mental health sector This pilot intervention notably supported the National Programme on Mental Health and the Civil Society Platform on Mental Health Student at Mushie Primary School Kinshasa Photo: GPE/Guy Nzazi
