▪ Due to the pandemic this year’s program was held
virtually, with interns completing projects for the various
participating civil legal aid programs. This year interns
spent time with Judge Woodruff-White of the Family
Court of East Baton Rouge, Lagniappe Law Lab,
Louisiana Appleseed, Southeast LA Legal Services, The
Pro Bono Project of New Orleans, and The Parole
Project.
▪ The 2021 ATJ Internship Program is set in motion with
two sponsoring organizations and schools; the program
did lose two sponsors for 2021. The working group is set
to meet and develop a strategy to return the 2022
program to all four Louisiana law schools.
▪ The 2021 ATJ Internship program hosted 3 interns and
began on Monday, May 17th, ending on Friday, June
25th. The interns spent time with: The Baton Rouge Bar
Foundation, The Parole Project, Judge Cashe with the
21st JDC, Judge Woodruff White with the East Baton
Rouge Family Court, Judge Tim Marcel in the 29tht
JDC, the Justice & Accountability Center, Southeast
Louisiana Legal Services, The New Orleans Pro Bono
Project and Louisiana Appleseed.
▪ Irwin Fritchie Urquhart & Moore LLC has joined the 2022
ATJ Developing Leadership Intern program as a
sponsor for Loyola College of Law.
▪ Planning for the 2022 program is underway.
o Participate in LSU Apprenticeship Week
The ATJ program participated in the 2019 & 2020 LSU
Apprenticeship week with a course titled Serving the Public and
the Profession. The 2021 LSU Apprenticeship week program
was cancelled.
The LSBA ATJ staff recently conducted an Access to Justice
training as a part of the 2022 LSU Apprenticeship Week
Program. The program was held from Tuesday, January 4th to
Saturday, January 8th. The course’s curriculum was centered
around the spectrum of legal services available to low income
Louisianans and featured several practical skills training
exercises including client interview simulations, helping
volunteers draft answers to legal questions on Free Legal
