realm.
• Judge Darensburg hosts a back-to-school supply giveaway annually. This event is held
on both the East and West Banks of Jefferson Parish in lower socioeconomic and
diverse neighborhoods. At these events, Judge always gives a speech to emphasize the
importance of completing school and finding ways to make a future for themselves. She
also encourages these kids to come to her any advice they need.
• Judge Darensburg also gives back to her alma mater. She is a member of the Alumni
Board and proudly serves as the treasurer for 2023. She works hard to promote diversity
within the board and the board’s activities.
• Judge volunteers to speak at local schools through the Judges/Lawyers in the classroom
program.
• Judge Darensburg also speaks with law students about the difficulties that one must
overcome in law school and life. For example, she was a panel speaker for Loyola
University New Orleans College of Law’s Evening Law Student Association’s event.
• Judge Darensburg remains humble and silent even though she has received several
awards for her commitment to the advancement of justice. To name a few, Judge
Darensburg received the 2018 Gillis Long Public Service Award and is the first
recipient of the Hon. Henry G. Sullivan, Jr. Award for Judicial Integrity, which was
presented to her by the Jefferson Bar Association. Also, Jefferson Parish recently
honored Judge Darensburg for Black History Month. Please see link for the Video

To honor Judge Darensburg with the Hon. Catherine D. Kimball Award for the Advancement of
the Administration of Justice would be to recognize her quiet efforts over the last 30 years in
advancing justice for all – those who come before her court and those who are underrepresented
in the community.
Sincerely,
Sowmya Mandava
