HON. RANDALL L. BETHANCOURT The Louisiana Center for Law and Civic Education (LCLCE) is pleased to provide you and the
IMMEDIATE PAST PRESIDENT Louisiana State Bar Association’s (LSBA) Board of Governors with a report on the activities of the
LCLCE. As set forth below, the LC LCE continues to promote and support educational programming
in support of the rule of law in a variety of ways.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Since our last report, The LCLCE held a four-hour CLE at the Louisiana State Bar Association’s
W. THOMAS ANGERS Annual Meeting & Joint LSBA/LJC
Summer School in Florida. This program offered training and
LAWRENCE J. CENTOLA, III materials for prospective presenters of the Adult Civic Education program and the Judges/Lawyers in
the Classroom programs. Louisiana Supreme Court Associate Justice Scott J. Crichton and Chief
HON. SYLVIA R. COOKS Justice John L. Weimer were among the speakers. The LCLCE also hosted an exhibition booth and a
HON. SCOTT J. CRICHTON cocktail reception in honor of its bo ard officers that was open to all attendees of the Annual Meeting
and Joint Summer School.

Between May 1 and the end of the 2021-22 school year, the LCLCE organized 16 Lawyers/Judges in

The LCLCE Executive Director and LCLCE board member Judge Randall L. Bethancourt were

HON. C. WENDELL MANNING held in June in Lafayette. The topic was “Lawyers/Judges in the Classroom”.
BETTY ANN MAURY The Justice Catherine D. Kimball Summer Institute was held at the Louisiana Supreme Courthouse in
New Orleans. This is a professional development program offered to teachers at no cost. In addition to

expert training in law-related curriculum, the Summer Institute provides housing, meals, mileage, and
HON. JOHN J. MOLAISON educational materials. During the Summer Institute, Chief Justice Weimer presented the President’s
Award of Excellence for Outstanding Civics Teacher to Chris Kourvelas, a middle school teacher in
GRAHAM H. RYAN Bossier City. This is a joint award given by the LSBA and the LCLCE.

As of August 1, 2022, the LCLCE checking account balance was $468,357.48. Funds to assist with
SHAYNA L. SONNIER operational expenses were received and deposited from the Louisiana State Bar Association,
Louisiana Bar Foundation (IOLTA), and private contributions received through the LSBA dues
