Honorable Bernette Joshua Johnson Trailblazer
Award / Name Reinstatement

The LSBA Committee on Diversity in the Legal Profession approved the

recommendations listed below under “Awards Background” on November

13, 2015. The Board of Governors approved the recommendations for the
Louisiana State Bar Association Chief Justice Bernette Joshua Johnson

Trailblazer Award and Louisiana State Bar Association Guardian of

Diversity Award on January 15, 2016.

Awards Subcommittee Recommendations:

The Awards subcommittee met on March 18, 2020 and March 25, 2020. The
Diversity Committee approved the recommendations on April 24, 2020. The

LSBA Board of Governors approved to change the name of the Chief Justice

Bernette Joshua Johnson Trailblazer Award to the Honorable Bernette Joshua
Johnson Trailblazer Award on August 29, 2020.

The Awards subcommittee met on January 13, 2021. The Diversity

Committee approved the recommendation(s) on January 15, 2021.

Louisiana State Bar Association Honorable Bernette Joshua Johnson

Trailblazer Award recommendation:

That the Honorable Bernette Joshua Johnson Trailblazer Award be renamed
the Chief Justice Bernette Joshua Johnson (Ret.) Trailblazer Award.

Th e LSBA Committee on Diversity in the Legal Profession recommends
reinstating the previous name of the award to the LSBA Chief Justice Bernette

Joshua Johnson (Ret.) Trailblazer Award.
