The committee met on November 18, 2020 and will meet again on February 24, 2021. At the
last meeting, the Committee continued discussions about operations and issues considering
COVID-19 and Hurricane Laura. The Committee published an article in the
October/November edition of the LSBA’s Bar Journal on trauma-informed care in courts,
particularly in Caddo Parish. The Committee agreed to create two new working groups – a
Legislative working group to monitor and update committee members on any legislation
related to children’s law, and a Disparities and Disproportionalities working group to identify
trainings and track data related to children in the juvenile justice system. The Committee also
worked on additional ways to provide training and outreach to law students and attorneys. The
Committee is continuing to update the Becoming an Adult Brochure to make it easier to access
electronically and is working on outreach to and trainings for university students.
