and the operation of Drug Court while perhaps sowing the seeds of interest in the law as a
profession.
Born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Judge Marabella attended Catholic High
School, graduating in 1964. He enrolled initially at the University of Southwestern
Louisiana (now known as the University of Louisiana at Lafayette) but returned to Baton
Rouge and enrolled at LSU when his father became ill. After receiving his bachelors’
degree in 1970, Marabella entered LSU’s law school where he attained his juris doctorate
degree in 1973. He and wife, Diane, have been married for 53 years and are the parents
of one son, Trey. Born with learning and cognitive difficulties, the Marabella’s placed
continued emphasis and resources to address Trey’s needs and educational development.
Now, at age 47, Trey lives independently out of state. According to Judge Marabella,
Trey is an inspiration and a true hero.
Letters attesting to Judge Marabella’s character, integrity, compassion, professionalism,
and work ethic in the administration of justice follow this narrative. Each author has
recorded his or her personal relationship and reasons why Judge Tony Marabella should
be selected for the 2021 Catherine D. Kimball Award. As a parent, I paid particular
attention to Bill Corbett’s letter that includes a resonating comment stating Marabella is
the person you would want to protect the interests of your child in a time of peril.
Thankfully, my children are now grown and have not been in a perilous situation
necessitating a call to him, but I cannot think of a higher compliment one can bestow than
to place the lives of one’s children in his hands. Clearly, Judge Tony Marabella is the
person who best exemplifies the qualities of this award.
