READING AND WRITING WORKSHEET
C. Procedure Text
Let’s Get Started!
Definition:
A procedure text is a type of writing that tells you how to
do something step-by-step. It usually starts with a title that
says what you will be doing, followed by a list of things you will
need. Then, it gives clear and simple instructions in the order you
should do them. This kind of text is like a recipe or a guide that
helps you complete a task easily by following the steps one by
one.
Language features:
1. Simple Present Tense. The simple present tense is used
because procedure texts focus on general facts or truths
about how to perform a task or use something. This tense
helps to create clear and straightforward instructions.
2. Imperative Sentences. Imperative sentences are essential
in procedure texts as they directly instruct the reader to
perform specific actions. These sentences are concise and
direct, often beginning with a verb, which clearly indicates
the required action.
3. Connectives. Connectives are crucial for maintaining the flow
and coherence of the text. They help in logically sequencing
the steps, making it easier for the reader to follow the
instructions.
4. Technical Terms. Using specific terms related to the task
ensures that the instructions are precise and professional,
which is especially important for tasks requiring specialized
knowledge or skills.
5. Adverbs. Adverbs provide additional details about how,
when, or for how long an action should be performed.
