Q. Does TRICARE pay for exercise programs?
A. No. By law, TRICARE isn’t allowed to pay for exercise programs, even
if your doctor recommends it. This includes exercise equipment, spas,
whirlpools, hot tubs, swimming pools, health club memberships, the
SilverSneakers® Fitness program, etc.
If you live close to a military base, most have access to exercise options.
If you don’t live near a base, many low and no cost options exist through
county, city, and state facilities or local organizations such as the YMCA
or Senior Centers. Some Medicare Advantage plans (Part C) and Medicare
supplements cover the SilverSneakers® Fitness program. Visit https://www.
silversneakers.com/tools/participating-health-plans to see a listing by state.
