Soldier for Life
Opportunities for your future
Story and photo by Gustavo Bahena
Public Affairs Office Riverside County Sheriff Corrections Deputy Loralee Anne speaks with Spc.Dillon Brown, a tanker with C Troop,
1st Squadron, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, at the Fort Irwin Job Fair, Sept. 10.
Employment Readiness here hosted its annual job fair for the Fort Irwin
community and public, Sept. 10.
The job fair took place at Sandy Basin Community Center with ap-
proximately 30 employers providing representatives, including: the Los
Angeles Police Department, the Exchange, the commissary, La Quinta
Inn and Suites, Kaplan University, L.A. County Sheriffs, San Bernardino
County Probation, and Hyundai.
Fort Irwin United States Army Garrison Command Sgt. Maj. Carlos
Esmurria spoke to attendees at the start of the event this morning.
“This is a great event … a great opportunity for you,” Esmurria told
the job seekers.
Esmurria explained there are many committed partners and employ-
ers, who are truly looking to hire quality people. Employers come to Fort
Irwin, because “we have great Soldiers and family members here that truly
are Soldiers for Life and have the requisite skills needed to go out into the
civilian community and do great things for America.”
Sgt. 1st Class Enrique Balderrama, a signal trainer with Wolf Team,
Operations Group, was impressed with the job fair and said it was a good
opportunity for recruiting talent, which leads to enhancing the community.
Balderrama attended the event in hopes of finding an opportunity on
post or in the local area. His retirement is approaching and he is going
through the transition process with Army Career and Alumni Program here.
“They do everything they can to assist you,” Balderrama said about
ACAP. “Not only do they provide assistance with your resume, but how
to dress, how to answer questions – it’s a very good process.
Silvia Moreno, manager of the Employment Readiness program, coordi-
nated the event. Her program prepares military community members here
for career advancement. She provides assistance with resume writing and
job seeking. For more information contact her at 380-5165.
