Simulated opposing forces, played by the 56th Security Forces Squadron, fire simulation rounds at 56th Contract- ing Squadron Airmen during a 56th CONS exercise March 2 at Luke Air Force Base. The purpose of the exercise was to simulate a possible scenario in a real-world deployment. CONS Airmen responded to an ambush when they were conducting a purchase from a foreign merchant.

An early morning photo of the Luke Air Force Base water tower taken Jan. 28 from the 56th Fighter Wing Public Affairs building parking lot captures a colorful sky. The tower holds 500,000 gallons of water and was repainted last year.
TOP LEFT: Lt. Col. Matthew Hayden, 56th Fighter Wing chief of safety and pilot attached to the 61st Fighter Squadron, made history Feb. 2 as the first Thunderbolt to achieve 500 flight hours in an F-35 Lightning II at Luke Air Force Base. Hayden is one of the most experienced F-35 pilots in the world, and has flown and in- structed new pilots in the F-35 at Luke since the inception of the program.

A 62nd Fighter Squadron F-35 Lightning II successfully employed four laser-guided bombs March 15 on the Barry M. Goldwater Range, the first weapons release by F-35s from Luke Air Force Base.

Secretary of the Air Force Deborah Lee James receives instruction from Lt. Col. Rhett Hierlmeier, 56th Training Squadron director of operations, on a flight simulator March 10 at Luke Air Force Base. James toured the Academic Training Center and was briefed on the prog- ress of F-35 Lightning II operations, pilot training and more. She held an all-call to thank Airmen and give her impressions of Luke.

as speeches and pre- sentations are made March 5 at Luke Air Force Base. Attendees included maintenance Airmen, personnel and their families. Members of the Luke Air Force Base Honor Guard presented ceremo-
