Notice: During routine Nellis and Las Vegas mosquito
surveillance, several mosquitos have tested positive for St.
Louis Encephalitis Virus (SLE)

Risk: SLE can affect humans and some other animals. Birds can carry the virus, but

are usually not affected by it. Positive mosquitos were collected near the horse
stables on base.
* West Nile virus is also a concern in Southern Nevada, but has not been identified on
base.

What can you do: Reduce your risk of mosquito bites by using insect repellant,

wearing protective clothing, staying indoors during peak mosquito activity (dawn and
dusk), and minimizing standing water sources (e.g. tire piles, empty flower pots,
buckets).
