Chaplain’s thoughts ...
Our generation loves to hear inspir-
ing stories — tales about exceptional
heroes who fear nothing and succeed
even during difficult times. Yet these
extraordinary characters, admired by
the people, can only be found in the
comics. They’re called super heroes;
because one day, by a stroke of luck,
they were given incredible powers.
However, the reality is that excep-
tional stories are not always caused
by a stroke of luck. Quite the oppo-
site, many times exceptional stories
happen when adversity touches the
lives of ordinary people.

A great example of an ordinary
hero is Dick Hoyt from “Team Hoyt,”
a father and son duo who compete in
marathons, etc. together.
When Rick was born paralyzed,
his dad refused to follow the advice
of the doctors to admit him to an
institution. Hoyt’s decision was to
bring Rick home and raise him as any
other child. He bought a computer so
Rick could communicate with other
people, took him to the beach even
when he could not swim, his siblings

played hockey with him even though
he could not hold the hockey stick.
The Hoyt’s love for Rick helped him
to understand that he was not special
… he was unique.
A few years later Rick decided to
run with his father in a charity run
for a paralyzed athlete. After the
race, Rick told his father that every
time they ran as a team he felt as
if his disabilities disappeared. That
was all Dick Hoyt needed to know.
They continued to participate in
races. One of their recent events was
a triathlon. They didn’t win, but the
crowd received them as champions.

Remember, “A bird sitting on a tree
is never afraid of the branch break-
ing, because his trust is not on the
branch but on its own wings.”
Every defeat, every heartbreak,
every loss, contains its own seed.
Nothing is impossible to those who
believe. Today’s real heroes are men
and women who serve their country
and protect our freedoms. I’m proud
of them and know deep inside that
surely God’s goodness and mercy
shall follow them for the rest of their
lives.

Security forces issued citations for nine
moving violations and one nonmoving
violation.

report of a major two-vehicle accident at
Super Saber Street. Driver 1 turned in
front of a motorcycle. Driver 2 collided
with Driver 1 and sustained minor in-

personnel.
July 24: Security forces responded to a
report of a minor two-vehicle accident at
the intersection of Super Saber Street and
Johnson Lane. Security forces responded
