Georgia Air National Guard officially retires

departs one last time from Robins
Air Force Base, Georgia, Feb. 11,
2022. The aircraft has been in military
service since 1996 and will retire to
its final resting place with the 309th
Aerospace Maintenance and Regen-
eration Group at Davis-Monthan Air
Force Base, Arizona. Aircraft 92-3289
began as a passenger airliner with
Qantas Airways in 1968 and was later
converted to a military weapon sys-
tem after being purchased by Grum-
man Melbourne Systems Division for
its conversion into the current E-8C.
After conversion, it was officially de-
livered to Robins AFB in March 1996.
Over the years, E-8C Joint STARS
have been involved in Operations Al-
lied Force, Operation Joint Endeavor,
NATO operations, Enduring Freedom,
Iraqi Freedom, Inherent Resolve and
various counter-narcotics missions.
Since 9/11, the E-8C fleet has flown
more than 130,000 combat mission
