A few notes on the staff. The school year of 1950 opened with a full compliment of staff for the first time, previously restricted because of the war, returning service personnel returned to their former professions as teachers easing the staffing shortages. In 1953 Mr James left, moving to Essendon Junior School and Mr Wickens joined the staff. Mr Kingston became school caretaker on the 17th August 1953. Mr Le Sueur from Jersey, and Miss West joined the school during 1954, and the same year Mr Paul left to become headmaster of the Sidney Burnell Secondary in Chingford. Mr Thomas left in September 1955 after seven years at the school to teach in Barnet, Miss Watson went to Edgeware Modern School, Mr Pettigrew went to Mitcham Grammar School and Mr Le Sueur returned to Jersey. Joining the school in 1955 were Mrs Treasure from Bedford Road Secondary, Mr Denness from Beaminster Grammar, Mr James from Romford, and Miss Goldmark joined as a o N . 1237 Laura Evans of 1945 temporary Maths teacher. 1956 saw the departure of Miss Rose, and the Laura was one of the girls selected to represent arrival of Mrs Cromack, Mrs Welsh and Mrs the school in the netball team. Also mentioned as Howe. sharing the same honour were Pam Wood, Wendy Dunham, Jeanne Everest, Pauline Mr Adams, who joined the school in the 1940’s Lambert and Olive Baldwin. remained with the school until it closed teaching various subjects including Physical Education, Gardening, Science and Technical Drawing. Ted Jackson remembers Mrs Zoltoski with great fondness as an English teacher who with patience helped him progress from 1G 2G through 3T 4A 5A. Shirley Smith recalls Mrs Christmas, the Domestic Science Teacher, sending her parents a letter home because she opened her school report Leslie Harland recalls that Mr Parkinson, the maths teacher, who was always trying to make people laugh, if some one put their stuff away before the end of lesson he would empty their bag onto the desk. Elaine Doyle recalls that Mr Craig used to have a thing about UHU glue and was mad about Batman & Robin, we also recall he had a thing about stingray, relating all of the items to Jesus and the Bible. o N . 0746 June Jones 1942 76
