THE NEIGHBORS: Watch in stunned amazement while
the chopper hovers briefly overhead.
Now Amanda runs out the front door with one of her
father's old shotguns, the wind of the blades whip- ping
her dress. She aims the gun up at the helicopter.
AMANDA: (screams) LET HIM GO!
Ducking and rushing at her from behind, the M.P.'s from
the second Jeep tackle Amanda. Prepp to the ground
while she kicks at them and the helicopter scuds off into
the night sky.
NIGHT SKY OVER PENNSYLVANIA - HIGH ALTITUDE
Streaking silver out of the dark blue western horizon
appears GENERAL BIF YEAGER'S F-14 Tomcat.
BIF YEAGER'S TOMCAT. NIGHT.
He seems to be taking in the darkening sky like an
astronomer when abruptly his eyes drop to a rapidly mov-
ing digital needle on his flight console.
MILITARY AIR CONTROLLER'S VOICE: (on Yeager's
headphones)
General, calls to Rockland are now being re-routed to
Langley Air Force Base and then kicked on to Briggs
Marine Headquarters in Virginia. We don't know what
the hell's going on.
GEN. YEAGER: (eyes on digital readouts) I have
requested base landing access, but I have as yet had no
response. In fact, I am getting a NO-FLY-BY code
response from the base. You don't think they'll shoot me
down, do you?
