Reference is made to the agreement ("Agrebmerrt") dated as of July 16, 1984 between ABC MOtlon Plctwas, |nq. ('ABC-} and Riclrert |rlterrrational, lnc. {'Cornpanyn} for the writing and directing services of Bill Richert ("Artistn) in connection with the above- referenced motion picture, which Agreernent has been assign€d to Castle Rock Pictures' lnc.
This shell constitute notice u'rder Paragraph 9 of the Agreement, that the two leading mernbers of the cast of the picture have exercised the "Reiection Right," as defined therein, and that CEEIIE Rock, as AEC's succe$sor-in-interest, has engaged Rob Reiner as the director of the Picture. Pursuant to subparagraph 9{iii} of the Agreement, other than Cornpany's right to payment of the sum of S5O,OOO, and. if the Picture is produced, an Emount equal to 2o,$ of the n€t profits fif any) of the Picture, neither Cornpany nor Artist shall have any right or obligation to perform directing services in connectlon wlth the Picture, nor shall Company or Artist be entitled to any additionalcompensation in connection therewith.

The check was in payment to William Richert as the director of THE PRESIDENT ELOPES, the same (and only) screenplay Sorkin was re-writing at this time. There was no other screenplay.

Here is Aaron Sorkin's future wife, acting as his lawyer for his interests and Castle Rock interests.
The letter clearly states that "Castle Rock, as ABC's Successor in interest, has engaged Rob Reiner as the director of the picture."
There is no mention of any other picture than the one re-written that was originally written by William Richert and Kyle Morris.
The check referred to here is 50 grand to be paid to me for NOT directing "The American President" AKA "The President Elopes," one in the same screenplays, except for Sorkin's rewrite.
There would be no need to pay me for not directing a script I did not write, as there was no contract for any other screenplay.
