 WHEREAS: This document is signed and dedicated to celebrate the 37  Annual Dr. Martin Luther King,

 WHEREAS: As the longest running commission of its kind in the nation, the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

 Commission of Mid-Michigan continues the tradition of honoring one of this country’s finest and most   Greetings!

              I am proud to join the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission of Mid-Michigan in welcoming
 WHEREAS: The theme for the 37  Annual celebration, "In the long run, justice finally must spring from   you to the 37th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Celebration. This year’s theme, “In the long

 a new moral climate,” reminds us that we must never stop pursuing justice in all aspects of our lives; and    run,  justice finally must spring from  a new  moral  climate” encourages  all greater Lansing area
              residents to work towards justice for all.
 WHEREAS: The City  of  Lansing is a welcoming community where we  strive  to strengthen our
 understanding and practice in providing equal dignity, respect, and opportunity for all who live and visit   I love attending this event and I am sorry that we are not able to gather in person again this year.
 our city; and   You can always feel the power and the passion in the room, and I hope we are able to celebrate in
              person again soon. Thank you to the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commission of Mid-Michigan for
 WHEREAS: Over half a century ago, from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther   your work in bringing together this event for 2022.
 King, Jr. inspired a movement for equal opportunity, equal rights, and for a more perfect union. Today,
 Dr. King represents how far our nation has come, the change that is made possible when we stand together   On behalf of the City of Lansing, it is a distinct privilege to welcome this year’s guest speakers,
 as a union and is a constant reminder that our duty to serve is not yet done; and   Honorary Chairperson Mark McDaniel, President/CEO of Cinnaire, and a special conversation with
              Mr. Ernest Green, Ms. Carlota LaNier and other members of the Little Rock Nine.
 WHEREAS: Although we are once again not able to gather in person due to public health concerns, it is
 important that we take this time to honor and celebrate Dr. King, his legacy, and his memory.   Thank you all for taking the time to watch this year’s program. It is imperative that we take time to
              properly honor Dr. King and his contributions, especially in times like these, and we pray that we
              may be graced with the intangible qualities he possessed that helped change society. Doctor King’s
 NOW, THEREFORE, I, Andy Schor, Mayor of the City of Lansing, by the power vested in me do hereby   legacy is fully embodied in his own words, “…unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the
